1/24/2005 - The library's copy of the textbook was returned today and according to the librarian at the Reserve desk it will be available from the Course Reserves starting Wednesday.
1/20/2005 - Due to the conundra with the textbooks the first assignment deadline has been moved to Thursday January 27th.
1/18/2005 - Dr. Aaron Gage will be giving a tutorial on C development under UNIX, focusing on basic command-line tools, compiling, and debugging this Friday from 4-5 pm in ENB 337 (conference room around the corner from the CSEE office). Please email me before Friday if you plan to attend so I can get an accurate head-count.
1/17/2005 - I checked in the bookstore on my way in today and saw that the textbooks had arrived as promised by the bookstore staff. Therefore as of tomorrow the textbooks in the CSEE office are no longer available for checkout.
1/14/2005 - I've posted two tutorials for those of you who intend to work in C or C++ and are not familiar with programming on UNIX/Linux. You'll find links to them on the main webpage for the course.
1/13/2005 - I've double checked with the bookstore and the textbooks are in route to the bookstore but won't arrive until noon on Monday. As a result I have taken a couple of steps to make copies available to you for limited periods of time. As of now the CSEE front desk has 3 copies of the textbook that you can check out for up to 2 hours. To do so you'll need a copy of your schedule from OASIS printed no earlier than today. I have also requested that the library's copy be returned and placed in the course reserves ASAP. When the textbook will be available there depends on the student that currently has it checked out.
1/12/2005 - As mentioned yesterday in class I want your programs to run on either sunray.csee.usf.edu (UNIX) or netcluster.csee.usf.edu (LINUX). I have checked with tech support and both are available to undergrad students. Your login is the same as grad and all the other csee machines. In order to access these machines from off campus you will need to login using a secure shell client. If you have a LINUX or UNIX machine at home then I recommend the command-line program ssh (use "man ssh" to find out more). If you're logging in from a Windows machine then a good program to use is SSH Client from SSH Communications Security. They provide a free non-commercial version that can be downloaded here: SSH Client.
1/11/2005 - I checked with the USF bookstore and the textbooks should be in on Friday.
1/11/2005 - The first assignment has been posted on the website. Along with the description of the assignment (handed out in class) I have also posted sample problems and solutions. The format of the .start files is identical to those that will be used to test your programs.
