My complete Amiga system and other items for sale!
An A4000/040 has now replaced my trusty A2000! It's set up with a
Warp Engine 4040 (040/40MHz), OS 3.1, 32MB RAM, a Picasso II graphics card
(thanks Jeff C.), NEC Multisync FE700+ monitor, and a set of 1GB + 500MB drives.
If you're not an Amiga user, or even if you are, and just want to look at my
Amiga setup, here's an annotated
screenshot.
Have you experienced lock-up problems with the WarpEngine 4040? Did
you manage to find the problem? Please tell me! My A4000 won't work
with the WarpEngine 4040 anymore - though it works perfectly with the
A3640 (040/25MHz). Here's a
link to my post on comp.sys.amiga.hardware with details available via
DejaNews.
My
workhorse computer is an SGI Indy machine =) It has 196MB RAM, a 9GB drive
and runs IRIX 6.5.16m.
I'd like to network it with the A4000, but I haven't
figured out how to run PPP over a serial line from the Amiga yet! Any
ideas? Built a GNU cross-compiler on the Indy
so that I can compile programs for the Amiga with ease, but having some
trouble with the final link step (see note below in projects).
The latest addition to my computers is a DELL Dimension 4300 with an
Intel Pentium 4 at 1.5GHz, 384MB RAM and a GeForce4 Ti4200 w/TV out card
running Windows 2000 Pro. Its useful, but definitely not as much fun as
the SGI or Amiga. I'm looking forward to buying a machine capable of
running MacOS X next!
Stuff I'd like to trade/sell/give away:
Some other stuff I have collected over the years that I don't necessarily need
anymore; send me email
and let me know what you're interested in, and what you can offer.
Here's a list:
-
SOLD! GVP HC+8, SCSI card with 8MB on board RAM, FaastROM v4.13
-
A3640 Rev 3.1, 68040/25Mhz processor card (works in A3000 and A4000)
-
CBM A4000 3.0 ROM (v39.106, set of 2 chips) and OS3.0 (disks are flakey)
-
Any Amiga (some PC/Mac compatible also)
-
Seagate 1GB, Fujitsu 1GB and Quantum 540MB SCSI-2 drives.
-
LineLink 144e modem (external, voice/fax)
-
CBM external 3.5" (880K) floppy drive
-
Free/Junk (at cost of shipping, first preference to buyers of
other equipment)
-
CBM A3000 1.3 ROM (set of 2 chips)
-
GONE! SAS/C v5 with upgrades to 5.10b. Orginal box and manuals. Heavy!
-
GONE! Old games, original disks, documentation thrown away (List)
Stuff I'm looking for:
For the SGI Indy:
an upgrade to the R5000SC CPU with boot PROM,
Insite 21MB Floptical drive, an external SCSI CDROM, and a sync-on-green adapter.
For a PC: Intel Pentium III CPU, 100MHz FSB, 500-850MHz.
If you have any of these for sale or trade, drop me a
line.

The battery in the A4000 had corroded and leaked on my motherboard.
So I replaced it using the Lithium Battery hack posted on Aminet in
hard/hack/Lithbatt.lha. I used vinegar to clean the corrosion,
and cleaned up with some water afterwards.
-
Replaced the fan in the A4000's power supply since the old one
was very erratic. See the A4k Hardware Guide by Warren Block on Aminet
for information on parts. TIP: make a note of how the fan was
oriented. There's a fan air FLOW arrow; make sure the new fan goes
in the same way. In any case, for the A4000 the air flow should
point IN to the power supply, which will take the hot air out of the
computer through air vents in the back of the power supply.

Built a cable/interface using the MAX232A chip to connect my CASIO
SF-5300E diary to the Amiga via the serial port. Currently evaluating
all available Amiga and UNIX software (that can run on the Amiga) for
backing up, restoring, and modifying data on the Amiga. I need help
writing C code to use the serial port on the Amiga.

[Since the GForce 030 is sold, this project is shelved. If you
want what I've done so far, just email me]
I'm going to attempt to hack a standard 72-pin SIMM to fit the GVP
GForce as outlined on Aminet in hard/hack/gvpsim64.lzh.
I've started the project, but man, the wiring is a pain! But I
desperately need more 32-bit memory, so I'll work on it when I have
time....

With help from Andreas Scherer (the original author), I am trying
to rebuild AmiWeb2c-2.1 from his sources so I can first reproduce
his effort, and then update the distribution to latest version
available. This will bring the latest possible version of TeX and
Friends to the Amiga! Another huge project would be to compile teTeX
1.0.x for the Amiga!

I've got gcc-2.95.2 setup as a cross-compiler to generate m68k
code for the Amiga on the SGI Indy. However, the executables
created by the process don't run on the Amiga :( If I take the
object files from the SGI to the Amiga, and run the final link step
on the Amiga, the executables work fine. So it seems that gcc is
doing the right thing, but the GNU linker (ld) isn't. If you have
experience with this sort-of problem, it would be a great help.

I've compiled ITRANS 5.2 (a system for printing Indian language scripts
by Avinash Chopde) on the Amiga, and set it up to run with PasTeX 1.4.
You can retrieve all the necessary files (77Kb) from the German
Aminet site and also from Avinash's
ITRANS site. [Need to update for Amiweb2c-2.1]
-
I would like to see some Indian language input system on the Amiga,
such as JAADOO that is available for DOS.
-
ShowDVI can't handle Type 1 fonts by itself, it needs to be able
to work with ps2pk. On Aminet there's SMps2pk.lha which I've got,
but haven't figured out how to integrate that with ShowDVI/AmiWeb2c.
If you know how to make these two work together, I'd like to know!
-
Updated PasTeX 1.4l's LaTeX to the new 1998/06/01 version; kept notes
for submission to CTAN for consideration. Also kept notes on
installation of the EC fonts on the Amiga.

CarCosts from Aminet is a program I've been using for a while to
keep track of how much money I spend on my car.
I'd like to fix a few annoying bugs and perhaps check
for Y2K problems so I can keep using it. The author has
stopped developing it and the source code is available, but I've not
been successful compiling it with SAS/C 6.0. Mostly linking errors
that have to do with MUI 3.8 (originally it was compiled with a much
older version of MUI). If you know what has changed with MUI from
3.1 to 3.8 to cause compilation failures, please email me!
Source of Amiga Software
If you're looking for any software for the Amiga, you can go the main Aminet
site in Germany as the US site seems to be unreliable, or find an Aminet
site closer to you.
