Welcome

This is the homepage of the UPnP power management project. The project is a Master thesis by Martin Olsson and Jakob Klamra from Lund Institute of Technology. The project supervisor was Ken Christensen from the University of South Florida. Please email questions to christen@cse.usf.edu.

The aim of this thesis is to add power management functionality into UPnP. The current version of UPnP (1.0) requires that all devices are fully powered up at all times. Introducing power management to UPnP gives two major benefits:

This project is part of the larger Energy Efficient Internet project.

The project of introducing power management to UPnP was finished in June 2005. The project was succesful and resulted in an approved master thesis, contributions to the UPnP Forum's work on power management and a publication at the Swedish National Computer Networking Workshop (SNCNW) 2005. On this homepage you can follow the project as it developed. You will find all code written during the project and all documents produced. we hope that this homepage can serve both as an information source to those interested in power management and UPnP and as an inspiration to other students. If you have any comments that you would like to share with us, please send us an e-mail.

This thesis is a cooperation between Lund Institute of Technology (LTH) and University of South Florida (USF). Our supervisors are Ken Christensen at USF Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Christian Nyberg at LTH Department of Communication Systems.
