December 4, 2012 - The final exam will be held on Wednesay, December
12th from 8pm to 10pm in our usual classroom. The instructions as they will
appear on the exam are:
Welcome to the comprehensive Final Exam for Computer Networks. Read
each problem carefully. There are 10 required problems each worth 10 points.
There is also an additional extra credit question worth 10 points.
You may have with you a calculator, pencils and/or pens, erasers, blank
paper, and one 8.5 x 11 inch "formula sheet". On this formula sheet you
may have anything you want (definitions, formulas, homework answers, old
exam answers, etc.) as handwritten by you in pencil or ink on both
sides of the sheet. Photocopies, scans, or computer generated and/or
printed text are not allowed on this sheet. Note to tablet (iPad,
etc.) users - you may not print-out your handwritten text for the formula
sheet. You have 120 minutes for this exam. Please use a separate sheet
of paper for the answer to each question. Good luck and be sure to
show your work!
October 20, 2012 - This week I am hosting
IEEE LCN and will be out of the office.
Our TA - Matt Shreve - will be handling the exam and giving the Wednesday
lecture. Matt will start the material on simulation. The key reading for
this (Sections 1.3 and 1.4) is
here.
When I return on the following Monday I will wrap-up our discussion on M/M
derivations. So, I suggest that you leave a few blank pages in your notes to
"go back" in topics for one lecture. Got it?!
October 20, 2012 - I was wondering why no one submitted miniproject #2 on Friday. The syllabus says that the deadline is (was) 10/19, the outline says the same, and in class we discussed having all material covered so you could submit this Friday. The intention was to have the assignment submitted before the exam so that I could give you the solutions for the assignment to study for exam prep. And, then..., I noticed that miniproject page its says that the miniproject is due on 10/26. Sigh. Always delay to the very last minute, eh?
October 12, 2012 - The mid-term exam will be held on October 22nd in
class. The instructions as they will appear on the exam are:
Welcome to the Midterm Exam for Computer Networks. Read each problem
carefully. There are eight required problems (each worth 12 points - you get 4
points for correctly following these instructions). There is also an additional
extra credit question worth 10 points. You may have with you a calculator,
pencils and/or pens, erasers, blank paper, and one 8.5 x 11 inch "formula
sheet". On this formula sheet you may have anything you want (definitions,
formulas, homework answers, old exam answers, etc.) as handwritten by you in
pencil or ink on both sides of the sheet. Photocopies, scans, or computer
generated and/or printed text are not allowed on this sheet. Note to tablet
(iPad, etc.) users - you may not print-out your handwritten text for the formula
sheet. You have 75 minutes for this exam. Please use a separate sheet of
paper for the answer to each question. Good luck and be sure to show your
work!
September 29, 2012 - The week #6 reading is now posted on the
reading page. For this week, please read the Kleinrock paper (the
first reading item for week #6) - this paper will be the topic of Wednesday's
lecture. Being able to plot neat graphs is important. Some helpful
guidelines are here.
September 18, 2012 - A student asked me how to write a paper. This is a very good question. I have collected some resources here to help students with exactly this. I suggest starting with Jones' How to write a great research paper.
September 10, 2012 - I recommend watching this 13 minute fun video... Warriors of the Net. The video is a fun view of how the Internet works.
August 30, 2012 - It does indeed appear that USF has a license, or other agreement, with Morgan and Claypool Publishers that allows for access to our textbook. From a usf.edu host go here.
August 27, 2012 - Welcome to a new semester!
