Senior Project, USF (Spring semester 2006)

As a part of a team of four students, developed an “intelligent scarecrow” for the Microsoft Windows Challenge 2006 competition. Took 2nd place out of 30 teams in Redmond, Washington with over 360 teams worldwide. The scarecrow utilized image processing techniques and custom hardware to control high-volume sounds and water sprinklers to prevent losses caused by predator birds on farms. Received international media attention such as the Discovery Channel and the CBC.

DVRS, CAE USA (Fall 2005 to Summer 2006 semesters)

Independently developed software for the Digital Voice Response System (DVRS) used on flight simulators. The previous system used a pair of obsolete audio cards and speech synthesis to generate ATIS messages over pilot headsets. ATIS are broadcasted from airports to report weather and runway data. The new software uses Microsoft Speech API 5.1 and DirectSound to produce distinct multi-channel audio streams through any number of sound cards.

Currently testing on a flight simulator and undergoing peer review, with actual integration scheduled for July 2006.
