REU - Research Projects 2009

Project 8. Projects in collaboration with NASA jet propulsion laboratory

This year we will have a series of REU research projects in collaboration with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the area of Image Analysis. Specifically, there is opportunity to work on processing of images collected by Mars rovers to facilitate metadata tagging for image database search. Examples of processing include horizon detection, cloud detection, rovers tracks detection as well as processing of rover microscopic images. Professor Dmitry Goldgof from the Computer Science and Engineering Department here at USF  (http://www.cse.usf.edu/index.php?sec=25&sub=159 )  and Dr. Mark Powell from JPL(http://www-robotics.jpl.nasa.gov/people/Mark_Powell/)will co-advise students interested in these projects. Students are required to have some background knowledge on Image Analysis techniques, as well as demonstrated C, C++, and Matlab programming skills.

A more detailed description of the projects is coming soon!.
