Research Experiences for
Undergraduates (REU) Summer Program in Computer Science and Engineering
Application Procedure
We are now accepting applications for the Summer 2009 REU program.
The deadline for the submission of application form and all supporting materials
is March 15, 2009. Acceptance notifications will be mailed by
March 30,
2009.
Eligibility: REU participants must be undergraduate students and must be
citizens or legal permanent residents of the United
States or its possessions and be in their junior or senior years
preferably.
We especially encourage applications from members of groups
under-represented in science and
engineering, and from students enrolled at institutions where research
opportunities are limited.
Procedure: If you want to apply to the REU program,
you must:

Arrange for
recommendations
from two college professors (in math, science, or
engineering) to be sent via email directly to the REU Program Coordinator or
sealed in an envelop along with your application package.

Mail the application, personal statement, college transcripts and
recommendations to:
Please send via mail (if they were not sent via email) the personal statement,
recommendation letters and the college transcripts to Dr. Labrador at
the following address. The online application form just need to be
filled out via internet.

Evaluation: In evaluating applications, we consider the
following criteria:

Courses in area of research,
basic courses in area of research, such as Data Structures,
C/Java/C++ programming, Computer Networks, and others, are not
required but may be a considerable asset for some projects.

Career objectives. We seek
participants who will make good use of the opportunity provided by
the REU program. A primary goal of the National Science Foundation
REU program is to help students make informed choices concerning
scientific careers, such as the decision whether or not to pursue a
graduate degree, or selection between possible sub-fields of study.
