The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida offers a 10-week summer research program for undergraduates contemplating a career in Computer Science and Engineering and related fields. The program provides exciting research opportunities in the areas of Computer Networks, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Transportation, Computer Architecture, VLSI design, Image Processing, and Bioinformatics, among others. This Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program is supported by the National Science Foundation and the University of South Florida.

We have begun accepting applications for Summer 2005. The deadline for the submission of application form and all supporting materials is March 31, 2005.

The Summer 2005 program will run from May 31 to August 5, 2005. The targeted audience consists of both male and female students that have attained at least junior status. This REU project is committed to helping under-represented populations bringing at least a total of 11 students: 5 students from the Engineering College of the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez (UPRM), 3 students from minority universities in Florida, 1 student from Latin America, and 2 students from USF.

Undergraduate participants receive a $3,200 stipend and an allowance for travel to/from Tampa, FL, housing and meals. Students coming from UPRM, other Florida institutions and Latin America will be housed in University Housing in bedroom apartments. These apartments are furnished and include a kitchen and living room and are within walking distance of all the research laboratories. Students participating in the REU program will live in the same apartment building, thus facilitating additional student-student interaction. Each student will receive a University ID card, which will allow them library privileges, use of the university shuttle bus system, and access to the computer labs on campus. Meal plans will be available during the summer program.

Eligibility: REU participants must be undergraduate students and must be citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or its possessions.

We especially encourage applications from members of groups under-represented in science and engineering, and from students enrolled at institutions where research opportunities are limited.
