Program Overview

CSTEP includes the following programs and services to help HCC
students bridge to USF and graduate school:
-
A continuous and personalized advising and tutoring service for
students in both institutions. This service is meant to recruit
and retain students and make sure they follow the expected path.
- Two
summer programs at USF meant to help HCC students comply with
academic requirements to bridge to USF and prepare students for
research.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) opportunities to
retain and graduate the students and increase their enrollment
in graduate school.
The main activities in which each participant will be involved are
the following:
First Year at HCC

Meet with
personal advisor and follow the Personalized Transition Plan

Apply to Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program at USF

Attend Summer
Program II at USF (10 weeks):

Program Design
(C):
Compile, test and debug programs, use of pointers,
arrays, linked lists, recursion, dynamic memory
allocation
-
Computer Organization: Boolean algebra, logic
elements, combinatorial circuits, structure of CPU,
input, output, memory technologies

Exposure to research:
Research methodologies: Selecting a topic, conducting a
literature review, writing and presenting a research
conference paper and poster

Year at USF
